Our collagen products contain vitamin C from acerola, an exotic fruit rich in vitamin C. Vitamin helps increase collagen production in the body and helps revitalize your skin naturally.
Our collagen is hydrolyzed and enriched with natural vitamin C from acerola for maximum absorption.
When collagen is extracted from fish, it is usually in a long, complex structure. These larger proteins must be digested before they can be absorbed and bioavailable in the body.
When such a large protein is hydrolyzed, it is 'cut' using enzymatic processes to chop it into smaller particles making it biologically active. This means that it is better absorbed into the body to do its good work.
Our collagen products contain vitamin C from acerola. Vitamin C supports collagen production in the body (source: EFSA) . Vitamin C in combination with collagen can also maintain good skin health and accelerate healing (source: efsa). People with a consistently inadequate intake of vitamin C may have a slower healing process and collagen production (source: efsa). PLENT Collagen contains 80 mg vitamin C from natural acerola per serving. Vitamin C has been studied to aid in collagen absorption in the body!
What does vitamin C in collagen do for your skin
Vitamin C not only helps contribute to collagen production, but it also helps regenerate vitamin E which helps protect cells from oxidative stress while supporting the immune system and the growth and repair of body tissues (Source: Efsa).
Traditionally, collagen supplements use bovine collagen or porcine collagen as collagen sources. But when further studies were conducted, fish collagen may have proven to be more durable and of better quality. Fish collagen is a high-quality type I collagen with a higher absorption capacity of up to 1.5 times more than bovine and porcine collagen (source: ncbi & mdpi).
Type 1 collagen is similar to the collagen structure that is naturally available in the body and is immediately available by the body after consumption (source: MDPI).
As we age, collagen production decreases by 1 to 1.5% every year from the age of about 25. However, this is only one factor that causes reduced collagen production. There are also other factors that reduce collagen production, such as:
- Insufficient vitamin C in the diet
- An unhealthy lifestyle such as an unhealthy diet and smoking
- Excessive sun exposure
Reduced collagen production causes signs of skin aging: wrinkles, brown spots, fine lines, drier skin, loss of skin elasticity and sagging skin. This is where collagen supplements come in handy.
Collagen supplements are mainly used to improve the skin. Overall, most users reported an improvement in their skin within 4 to 8 weeks after starting daily collagen use. For a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, users reported that first results were generally noticed between 2-6 months after starting daily collagen use.
It is important to note that these results came from studies using the recommended daily dose of 5-10 grams of collagen type I.

Hyaluronic acid is super popular. It is known for its moisturizing properties and ability to plump fine lines. Some collagen brands use hyaluronic acid in their products for this reason. It sounds logical to add this to our product, but there is a downside.
Hyaluronic acid is an extremely valuable commodity. In a scientific study, a supplement of 120-240 mg of hyaluron was used to investigate benefits such as reducing crow's feet. In reality, much less is often used in supplements (for example, only 20 mg, instead of 120-240 mg as in the study) because otherwise it would become an unaffordable product. This also means that you would not be able to achieve the results as shown in the research. This way it seems more like a marketing ploy than it is actually a valuable addition.
For this reason, we have chosen not to add it, keeping the product affordable and containing only active ingredients and doses that are truly valuable to you as a user.
